We get each seed in just the right place so it can grow into a healthy vigorous plant

Williames rotary drum seeders have been used by leading nurseries the world over for the past 12 years, offering unsurpassed control for accurate high speed seeding.

How is the accuracy of the Williames seeder achieved?

First, we make sure that the dibbled hole made to place each seed is in exactly the right place. The hole must be in the centre of the cell and must be at the right depth to suit the particular seed being sown. This is achieved with the timed dibber and specially shaped convoluted dibber points.

Second, we give the operator great control over the seeding head so that only one seed is placed in each cell (or if multiple seeds of a low-germination variety are desired in each cell this can be achieved also). This is achieved with the patented seeder head and singulator bars, and on some machines, with variable vacuum control.

Williames’ seeders are built to last, to enable accurate high speed seeding year after year. We believe that some of them could have seeded well over one billion seeds since they were first installed.

How the Williames seeding head works

The diagram below shows how the seeder picks up seed out of the hopper, removes unwanted multiple seeds using fine jets of air from the singulator bars, and places them in the tray. This diagram shows the use of a needle seed drum.

How it works

  1. Seed pick up point
  2. Seed is held on by vacuum, the same as a conventional needle seeder
  3. Unique design singulator bars allow air to flow in multi directions as well as on the underside of the needle to enhance singulation, up to 5 bars available
  4. Tray to catch seeds blown off by singulator bars
  5. Transfer of seeds from drum to tray is at a constant speed and is released with controlled air pressure resulting in precision of seed placement
  6. Prior to seed pick up all holes are cleaned every rotation by high pressure air to maintain premium performance
  7. Large diameter drum so there is plenty of room to singulate

Williames Drum Seeder Models Available

Williames Hi-Tech International Pty Ltd manufactures two models of rotary drum seeders:

Features and benefits of both seeders are:

  • Variable speed without losing timing
  • Simple seeder and dibber height control
  • Large diameter seed drum enabling multi-seed singulation bars to ensure maximum singulation
  • Simple, fast change of seed drum to sow different trays or seed types in as little as 30 seconds
  • Rotary motion of seeding enables seeds to be placed in trays accurately at high speed
  • Low amount of moving parts with a robust long life construction
  • Precision triple diaphragm air regulators to maintain premium singulation of seeding
  • Precisely mechanically timed cleated conveyor to dibber and seeder drums via heavy duty chains and sprockets – RETAINS LONG TERM TIMING
  • Powered rotary cleaning brush on the dibber drum

Williames seeders can accurately sow even small seeds such as petunia
